Goals and Objectives of Countryside Animal Friends

We are a new chapter of the Unitarian Universalist Animal Ministry.  The link to their website is listed on the right sidebar.  I encourage you to visit their page and their links.

We are called "Countryside Animal Friends" because we are a part of the Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist, in Palatine IL.  CCUU's link is on the right sidebar, as well.  You can learn more about Unitarian Universalism and our own local congregation on the CCUU website.  CCUU also has a Green Sanctuary committee, and many of Animal Friend's activities and initiatives overlap with Green Sanctuary and vice versa.  Not all, but many...

We have only had a few meetings since February 2010, when Erv Toth and Belinda Robinson first formed the group and joined the UUAM.  During those few meetings, we have eventually come up with a few objectives and projects to implement and maintain at Countryside Church:

1.  Raise funds for local non-profit organizations that are dedicated to animal welfare issues.

2.  Participate in the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale, every year in early May, to raise awareness about "factory farming", especially the deplorable conditions found in most egg-laying facilities; and to promote a cruelty-free, plant-based diet.  We may also have vegan bake sales throughout the year.  This event also ties in with the above objective.

3.  Promote the Meatless Monday campaign and pledge.  We plan to do this by posting a pledge sheet, info sheet, and recipes on the church bulletin board; by posting recipes and info on our Facebook page; and by submitting recipes to the weekly Sunday newsletter.

4.  Maintain a Facebook community page, called "Countryside Animal Friends", accessible to the general public.  On this page, we will share current news stories, petitions, and announcements about local, national, and worldwide animal welfare and conservation issues.  We will also provide Meatless Monday recipes every week.

5.  Promote CCUU Green Sanctuary events that coincide with animal welfare and conservation issues.

We have already met one of these goals already this year - in September, CAF hosted a vegan bake sale,  in conjunction with the Suburban Vegetarian Meetup Group.  We raised over 261.00 for Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, in Barrington IL.  (See link at right sidebar.)

We hope to have another bake sale in May to coincide with the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale that is international.

We are in the process of encouraging the congregation and community to pledge to Meatless Monday.  Hopefully, next Sunday there will be a meatless recipe in the Sunday newsletter.  There will definitely be one (or two, or three) on our FB page, and here, on this blog.
